Mindfulness Workshop

February 9th
Noon – 4:00 pm
$25 prepayment required
Registration closes February 6th or when 15 participants is reached.

Although the word ‘Mindfulness’ is in wide use these days — in business, education, meditation and medicine – most of us don’t have a full appreciation of its benefits, how it works, and/or how to do it. In this workshop we will examine ‘the what, the why, and the how’ of mindfulness. We will be drawing on the work of leading teachers and researchers to learn what mindfulness is, what its benefits are, how we can embody mindfulness in daily life, and why we should!

We will be looking at mindfulness through the lenses of neuroscience, health and medicine, societal relevance, ethics, and spirituality. We will practice methods for calming the mind, developing focus and concentration, and developing steadiness of mind in daily life.

The session is led by Grace Franklin, a longtime member of Blue Heron Sangha, a mindfulness community in the tradition of Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. Blue Heron meets weekly at the Dominican Sisters’ Martin de Porres Center.
