2021 Farm Fresh 5K FAQ

15th Annual Farm Fresh 5K: Hybrid Race
Shepherd’s Corner, Blacklick, Ohio
FAQ

Partner with us in feeding the hungry.

Proceeds from this annual race support Shepherd’s Corner Ecology Center, our mission, and our efforts to donate naturally grown produce to local food pantries. This year, to support the critical work of small local farms, we have decided to partner with nearby From Scratch Farms to provide fresh, naturally grown produce to those in need.

What is a 5K? What is a hybrid race?!
A 5K (“five-K”) race is a popular running event that everyone can enjoy from the casual runner/walker to the Olympic athlete. This year’s annual hybrid race offers the ability to run or walk your race anywhere! In a metro park, around your neighborhood, even on a treadmill! The choice is yours! During registration there will be limited on site participation options.

What are the current onsite options for this year’s hybrid race?
10 participants per wave, register together to ensure same wave placement.
Thursday June, 10th: First wave: 7:30 am     Last wave: noon     (10 time slots)
Friday June, 11th:      First wave: 7:30 am     Last wave: noon     (10 time slots)
Saturday June, 12th: First wave: 8:00 am     Last wave: 11:00 am     (7 time slots)

What if I want to participate onsite with my family/small group?
For on site participation we are allowing 10 to register per each group which may increase. After registering, you will be sent a link to choose a time if you selected onsite participation. We ask that you please fill out this form for each individual you have registered for onsite participation.

What will the race look like if I decide to participate in the onsite option?
Make sure to bring a water bottle with you! When arriving just before your chosen start time you will sign in. You will also be asked to sign out upon completion of the course. The course will be marked in a similar manner to previous races. Roots, rocks, and other hazards will be spray painted and paths which are not part of the course will be marked with caution tape. When inside the barn, or near those who are not within your wave, we kindly ask that you be masked.

What if I decide to participate in the 15th Farm Fresh 5K virtually? How do I know how far 5K/3.1 miles is?
One helpful resource for creating your own route is onthegomap.com. Google maps can also be used to determine the correct distance. Strava and Map My Run may also be helpful in creating a route as well as timing.

Will this year’s race have shirts? What’s the cost of the race?
We will not be offering shirts for this year’s race. To reflect this, the cost of registration, for this year only, is $20 for adults and $10 for those under 12 years. Shirts will return for our 16th Annual Farm Fresh 5K in 2022!

What about prizes?
As with most things these days we have little control of outcome. Prizes will be awarded through a drawing. Keep an eye on your mailbox!

How do I submit my time?
There are a couple ways that you can submit your time. You can record your time when signing out if you choose to participate on site. If running the race virtually you can submit your time, via email.

Who can participate in the 5K?
EVERYONE! The Farm Fresh 5K is a family-friendly event for runners and walkers of all ages and fitness levels. It’s fun for everyone! Since this year’s event is hybrid, anyone everywhere can participate! Share the Farm Fresh 5K with all of your friends!

Can I bring my children to the 5K?
Of course! In fact, children 12 and under get in for a reduced rate. Children as young as three have enjoyed walking through our woods and farmland, and in past years several families have even pushed strollers through parts of the course. We pride ourselves on hosting a family-friendly event.

Can I bring my dog to the 5K?
We do not allow dogs at the race. We need to be attentive to the needs of other people and of our farm animals.

How do I join a team?  What is the purpose of registering as a team?
You can increase your impact by forming a team. Ask friends to run with or to donate to your team.
–If you would like to set up a fundraising team, contact Sr. Marguerite Chandler.
–When registering, note the fund raising team.
–If you are making a donation only, you can donate online. Make sure to note fundraising team name on the form.
–To raise funds, towards your team’s impact with those who do not want to participate in the 5K, use this link!  They will need to add a team name for the donation to count toward your team.

Great! I want to consider doing even more for this cause. How do I become a sponsor for the 15th Annual Farm Fresh 5K?
Information about the levels of sponsorship, and each level’s rewards, can be found on our sponsorship link and on this printable sponsor brochure

What will the on-site course look like?
If you have participated in our race in previous years the course will be nearly identical. Our race is ALL-TERRAIN–participants will race over meadow trails, alongside natural gardens, and through wooded paths. Due to the nature of this year’s 5K the race path will be very well marked so participants remain on course.
An approximation of the race course is shown below:
This image is an example of the path that our Annual Farm Fresh 5K takes as it winds through the beautiful property at Shepherd's Corner.
