Farm Fresh 5K: June 8th 2019

Registration is live for our 13th Annual Farm Fresh 5K which will kick off on June 8th at 9:00 am.

This annual event helps us fund our food production garden. As a nonprofit we are driven to provide those in need with fresh, naturally grown local produce as a way to combat food insecurity in our central Ohio communities. Your participation, whether through running or walking, or by means of a donation to the 5K helps us provide even more fresh produce to smaller food pantries. Some of the pantries that we provide produce to are GRIN (Gahanna Residents in Need), Bishop Griffin Pantry, and HEART (Helping East-side and Reynoldsburg-neighbors Today).

More information on our annual event can be found on our 5K Page of our website.

10:00 am – 11:00 am
$15 for all weeks * $5 for individual weeks
Registration deadline February 1st

Joan Chittister invites us to embrace older age as a natural part of life that can be deeply rewarding. Not only accepting but celebrating getting old, this inspirational and illuminating work looks at the many facets of the aging process, from purposes and challenges to struggles and surprises. Bring a copy, either electronic or physical, of The Gift of years: Growing Older Gracefully with you.

——

Mindfulness Workshop
February 9th
Noon – 4:00 pm
$25 prepayment required
Registration closes February 6th or when 15 participants is reached.

Although the word ‘Mindfulness’ is in wide use these days — in business, education, meditation and medicine – most of us don’t have a full appreciation of its benefits, how it works, and/or how to do it. In this workshop we will examine ‘the what, the why, and the how’ of mindfulness. We will be drawing on the work of leading teachers and researchers to learn what mindfulness is, what its benefits are, how we can embody mindfulness in daily life, and why we should!

We will be looking at mindfulness through the lenses of neuroscience, health and medicine, societal relevance, ethics, and spirituality. We will practice methods for calming the mind, developing focus and concentration, and developing steadiness of mind in daily life.

The session is led by Grace Franklin, a longtime member of Blue Heron Sangha, a mindfulness community in the tradition of Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. Blue Heron meets weekly at the Dominican Sisters’ Martin de Porres Center.
